Conti, Nicolao

Conti, Nicolao
A Venetian who was in Vijayanagar around 1420 and who left an account of that city. On his return from India, Nicolao went to Pope Engenius at Florence craving absolution for having renounced his faith on account of a threat to his wife and children who had accompanied him. This happened when he was passing through Egypt. The detailed statement of his journey, which includes his passage through India, was written down by Poggio Bracciolini and published in his book Historia de Varietate Fortunae, Lib. IV.
